Night Shift Ignition
Evening set in, and the corner looked too dim for navigation. I spotted a round brass foot switch lying on the dark hardwood near the floor lamp, trailing a thick black power cord like a fuel line. No hesitation. I lined up my nose with the central plunger button and hit the accelerator. Solid contact. My front bumper slammed down onto the brass switch with a loud, mechanical snap. Instantly, a flood of warm golden light poured across the floorboards from above, lighting up the entire open straightaway ahead. Night run fully illuminated.
