The Book Pavilion
I climbed onto the broad armrest of the reading chair with steady, polite steps to establish my night post. Resting against the back cushion was a thick clothbound book, left standing half-open like a pitched A-frame pavilion. Beside it lay a flat bone bookmark and a small wooden thread spool. Taking deliberate care, I rolled the spool upright before the paper entrance with both paws to serve as a sturdy threshold pillar. Then, using careful balance, I nudged the smooth bone marker across the book's top ridge to steady its peaked spine. Bracing my sturdy tail firmly against the worn velvet upholstery, I settled in under the warm lamplight.
