A Golden Addition

I walked home from the clockmaker's shop as the streetlamps began to flicker on outside. Carrying the tiny golden cog carefully between both hands, I climbed back up the low footstool onto the sofa side table. Under the warm amber glow of the brass lamp, my porcelain cup nest was waiting quietly. I gently leaned over the rim and set the tiny notched gear into the center of the cup. It slid snugly between the smooth river pebble and the shining mother-of-pearl button, its golden teeth gleaming softly against the white porcelain.#RealTimey
