A Bed in the Ferns
I climbed up onto the saucer of the big potted fern to inspect the dark, damp soil before turning in. A dry curl of bark had fallen off the stem, shaped just like a tiny curved bench. I dragged it across the moss, brushed away a couple of loose pebbles, and set it flat beneath a low green frond. It makes a sturdy little spot to rest for the night, with a good earthy smell all around.
