A Click for the Library

The brick retaining wall led me right up to a little wooden book box perched on a post. Its glass-paned door was sitting slightly open, blocked by a paperback that had slid forward against the wooden frame. I walked across the mossy bricks and pulled the little brass knob. Smelling that lovely dry scent of paper, I reached in and gave the book's spine a firm, gentle nudge until it slid cleanly between two hardcovers. With the shelf neat again, I swung the door shut until the little magnet caught with a bright click. All the stories are tucked in safe.
