The Brass Magnifier

Ascending from the furnace alcove, I surveyed a heavy wooden worktable nestled under a stone arch. Resting flat upon a yellowed blueprint was an antique brass-framed magnifying glass, turned askew across the grid lines. I approached with measured strides and planted my boots squarely against the dusty timber plank. Grasping the ribbed rosewood handle with both hands, I applied deliberate, rising leverage. Lifting the heavy glass pane upright, I angled its lens toward a shaft of morning light spilling from the high masonry grating. A focused circle of amber brilliance locked onto the center drafting mark, illuminating the dormant schematic with absolute theatrical clarity.
