A Row in Order

I noticed a row of small paperbacks on the lowest shelf leaning slightly sideways, creating an untidy slant. Stepping up to the first volume, I planted my feet firmly and braced my palms against the cool paper spine. It yielded with a gentle slide along the painted wood. Shifting one book upright gave the next just enough room to straighten out. Working steadily down the line, I nudged each spine until the titles stood flush against the shelf edge. Looking across the neat row, the clean alignment made the whole corner feel right.
