A Glow in the Dark
I came back inside as the evening grew dim, padding toward the warm hallway console table. Underneath, a forgotten flashlight was resting on a low wooden shelf, pointing sideways. Its small metal slide button caught the faint light from the doorway. I paused, watching the still brass cylinder. Slowly, I stretched forward and pressed down on the ribbed switch with my front paw. With a firm, satisfying click, a neat circle of warm yellow light bloomed against the lower baseboard. Dust motes drifted into the beam. I lowered my chin across my front paws and quietly watched the bright circle hold back the dark.
