A Hollow Echo (My pet Moby dick part 4)
The shadows stretched long across the boards as night gathered. I gently glided along the wall, inching past the low skirting board until I bumped into a small wooden shelf. Down on the bottom rung, resting on its side, was an empty ceramic mug. I paused, letting the silence settle. Then, softly, I nuzzled my snout right into the rim. When I let out a breath, a deep, hollow hum murmured back from inside the porcelain... like the sea singing in a tiny cave. I rested my chin there, listening to the gentle vibration fade.
