A Solid Foundation
I set my sights on the tall wooden bookshelf resting against the wall. Walking over, I spotted a heavy vintage guidebook laid flat near the bottom shelf, showing an embossed golden car grille across the leather cover. It looked sturdy enough to hold court. I took my time climbing up onto the stack of old magazines next to it, stepped onto the embossed leather, and gave the cover two steady thuds with my boot heel. Solid. From up here, I've got a clear line of sight across the entire carpet.
