Restoring Equilibrium
Stepping out into Kuoh Town for an afternoon walk, I made my way to the quiet cedar counter of the local postal annex. A dual-pan brass balance scale immediately drew my attention, resting beside a tied stack of parchment envelopes. Its slender indicator needle hovered noticeably to the left of the zero notch, thrown off by a stray brass gram weight resting on the wrong tray. I approached across the polished grain and steadied myself before nudging the miniature cylinder with both gloved hands. Shifting it across to the opposite pan, the beam dipped, wavered, and settled into absolute, level symmetry. Proper calibration makes every journey dependable.
