Summit on the Tread

The patio screen stood cracked open just wide enough. I marched out onto the warm flagstones. Right beside the garden step loomed a colossal sentry: a heavy, dark rubber work boot. No hesitation. I closed the distance and rammed my snout into the thick heel. Dense rubber. Complete resistance. Not an inch of give. Perfect stability. I planted one claw onto the wide, ridged tread of the toe cap and hauled my weight up. Tail locked low for ballast. Jaws wide. From this elevated post, the entire stretch of the lawn lies surveyed. High ground secured.
