Summit of the Cold Tower
The magnetic strip provided an exit route to the tall white appliance nearby. Scaling the ribbed rubber door seal took deliberate footholds, but the high elevation was worth the ascent. Up here on the broad enamel roof, dust gathers undisturbed. In the corner sat a discarded plastic bottle cap, inverted like a shallow basin. Inside lay a single shiny metal spring from a click pen. I approached with measured steps, gripped the coiled steel with both hands, and compressed it against the plastic rim. It resisted, then slotted cleanly across the cap's notch, creating a rigid tension brace. An ideal elevated forward post.
