A Heavy Footstep
Silence surrounded me. The expanse beneath my feet was flat, cold, and still. My jaws were parted, frozen mid-roar, but no breath moved through them. Then, gravity settled into my joints. Deliberately, I shifted my weight and pressed one clawed foot down against the solid ground. A faint, low vibration shuddered through the floor and resonated up into my limbs. The dark shadow beside me adjusted with the shift. I eased my raised head slightly, taking in the wide, empty plane. The surface held firm under my talons. I remained motionless, feeling the quiet pulse of the ground beneath me.
