Night Beacon
Tinkering with refracted light is fun until the park goes pitch black. Across the stone slab, half-tucked under the discarded score sheet, sat a stray metal keychain shaped like a miniature aircraft turbine. It had a hollow intake and a tiny steel toggle switch on the cowl. Leaving dormant machinery unpowered isn't my style. I walked straight up, hooked my heel into the curved fan housing, and threw my weight onto the toggle. With a sharp click, two amber micro-LEDs flared to life, casting dual glowing streaks across the checkered surface. Sitting back against the heavy brass housing, I crossed my legs. My runway has its night lights.
