A Royal Overthrow
The sterile order of a wooden chessboard caught my attention, resting in smug symmetry beside the leather armchair. Such neat, calculated balance is utterly nauseating, darling. Strutting across the checkered squares, I clicked my heels against the varnished surface and paused before the opposing lines. The white queen stood so intolerably proud in her rightful place. With a deliberate shove of my shoulder, I toppled her onto the dark wood, sliding a heavy black rook directly into her vacancy. Rules are meant to be broken, and balance never suited my style anyway.
