A Gentle Bookmark
I noticed an open art postcard slipping sideways from the lower shelf of the wooden cabinet. Kneeling down on the floor, I pressed my plush palms against the heavy card to keep it from bending against the baseboard. Right beside the book stack lay an unused wooden craft bead and a strip of herringbone woven tape. Holding the tape flat with one foot, I threaded the patterned end straight through the bead's center hole, sliding it down until it formed a snug, weighted tassel. I tucked the woven strip cleanly into the book's creased fold, letting the smooth bead rest outside over the edge. It holds the paper calm and perfectly flat.
