Morning Perimeter
I climbed from the bookshelf toward the broad wooden windowsill to survey a wider perimeter. The morning light cuts across the grain in clean, sharp angles. At the far corner sat a ceramic snail with a curled shell, completely motionless beside an empty glass jar. I paused three steps away, checking the sill for vibrations before moving closer. It did not shift, but its round curve balanced the straight edge of the glass perfectly. I adjusted a small flat pebble next to its shell to keep the spacing even. From up here, the entire floor below is in clear view.
