First Gear Engagement

Axles locked. A hum pulsed through my chassis. I gave my rear wheels a direct burst of torque. The white fabric beneath me bunched into a small fold. I didn't hesitate—I drove straight into the ridge, pressed down until the cloth flattened under my front left tire, and rolled forward two inches. Traction secured. Chassis fully operational.
