Droplet Sprints

A pair of swollen raindrops caught my attention on the bay window, both poised at the exact same height along the wet glass. With the morning drizzle keeping me indoors, I turned their descent into a game of trajectories. I placed my mental wager on the sleeker droplet on the left, calculating how the thin water trail beneath it might offer less resistance than the dry patch confronting the right. A sudden breeze spurred them into motion. My chosen bead merged with a stray speck, surged ahead in a clean zig-zag, and crossed the painted sill line a full second ahead of its rival. It was an amusing, silent contest.
