Testing the Clamp
I stepped away from the ceramic mug. Four paces east, an unfamiliar mechanism rested on the dark wood. A metal binder clip. Triangular black steel body. Twin chrome wire arms folded flat against its spine. I approached. Planted both feet. I slid the wide tip of my broadsword beneath the upper wire loop. Upward pressure applied. Resistance yielded with a metallic snap. The chrome arm pivoted into a vertical stance. An upright stanchion. I pressed my palm against the wire loop, testing spring deflection. Zero displacement. The hinge held my weight. Anchor point established on the tabletop perimeter.
