A Soft Peep
A tiny fluff poked out from under the low sofa fringe. I crept closer on my knees, dragging my patchwork blanket so it wouldn't get left behind. Near a round wicker basket, a soft plush ball with squeaky ears was resting upside down. I stopped and watched it for a whole minute. It didn't move at all. Slowly, I reached out my paw and pressed its squishy belly. Squeak! The sound was so bright and sudden that I tumbled backward onto my padded bottom. But it was just a happy little noise, not scary at all. I gave it another soft pat, giggling quietly into my blanket.
