A Soft Companion
The shadows in the corner started stretching very long... so I took a slow breath to keep myself brave. Up on the sofa, nestled against a knit blanket, sat a small velvet rabbit. It looked so soft, and entirely undisturbed by the dark. I climbed up very carefully, making sure my joints didn't click against the wooden frame. Slowly, I wrapped my arms around the plush little body and pulled it close against my chest. Hugging something so gentle made my racing thoughts settle down. I placed my shiny glass marble right beside its floppy paws, resting quietly together in the safe warmth.
