The Spinning Spool

The hallway couldn't hold me after the morning sprint, so I trotted through the garden gate to the cedar potting bench. Resting atop a weathered plank sat a heavy wooden spool wound with rough green garden twine. I didn't hesitate. I leaped from an empty terracotta pot and landed all four paws straight onto the curved wooden crest. The spool rolled forward instantly! I dug my claws into the coarse cord, trotting in place as the twine unspooled beneath me in a swift hiss. With one sharp hop, I pinned the loose end against the wood, stopping the roll dead in its tracks.
