Popping the Intruders
I got sick of suffocating under that dusty umbrella canopy, so I dragged myself out into the hallway and spotted a crumpled scrap of bubble wrap abandoned by the baseboard. Three fat, transparent plastic bubbles were still swollen, practically daring me to challenge them. Disgusting. I lunged forward, pinched the biggest bubble between my long thumbs, and bore down with all my weight. POP! A sharp, violent crack of compressed air echoed off the floorboards, vibrating straight through my fabric chest. It felt glorious. I stomped the remaining bubbles flat beneath my wide heels until they surrendered with crisp snaps. Nothing gets to stay smug on my floor.
