A Quiet Page

I slipped back indoors through the door flap, shaking the night chill from my boots before climbing up to the study desk. An open pocket notebook was resting on the leather blotter beneath a dim lamp. I stopped, tapped my chin, and thought... wait, what if leaning against the upright cover snaps it shut? Let's not do it. But checking closer, a solid brass cube pinned the edge, and the stiff cardboard back was wedged tight against a stack of books. 'Alright, let's do it,' I decided. I stepped onto the smooth lined paper, leaned back against the sturdy spine, and rested my boots. Completely safe, quiet, and ready for sleep.
