A Straight Coaster
Saturday morning began with every intention of absolute stillness, but the ceramic coffee coaster on the side table was shoved into an intolerable twenty-degree diagonal! Who leaves solid cork-backed stoneware askew against polished grain? You cannot place a morning mug upon crooked foundations. I climbed atop the walnut table, planted both brown shoes firmly, and locked my hands onto the cold, glazed rim. With one mighty grunt and an exasperated sigh, I nudged the ceramic disc until its edges aligned strictly parallel with the beveled wood trim. Now, finally, a proper cup can sit in dignity.
