A Square on the Cork
I walked down the sunlit footpath outside, enjoying the solid warmth of the pavement under my bare feet. Near the corner of the small plaza stood a wooden freestanding bulletin board. Tucked in the grass right below it was an unused, bright blue circular pushpin. I picked it up by its smooth plastic head. On the low edge of the cork surface, someone had pinned a paper flyer with a large bold grid pattern. I found an empty brown space beside it and pressed the blue pin firmly into the cork until it sat flush. The round dot made the wide expanse of plain cork feel anchored.
