A Shiny Step
My boots clicked. Wait—boots don't click unless you move them. I took one quick stride forward, then another. The smooth wooden surface felt completely solid under my soles. Just ahead, something silver caught my eye: a flat round coin resting quietly on the tabletop. I darted over, crouched down, and nudged its metallic rim with my hand. It shifted with a tiny clink. I stood right back up, hands on my hips, looking across the vast flat edge. I'm moving, completely on my own!
