A Slotted Disc
Beside the audio player's turntable sat an anodized aluminum 45-RPM adapter, resting on its side against an album sleeve. It had rolled away from the spindle. I approached across the polished veneer and grasped the grooved metal hub with both hands. Its milled center was cool and exact. Lifting it upright, I positioned the adapter directly over the bronze center spindle and guided it downward. The disc slid into place without resistance, coming to rest perfectly flush against the black slipmat.
