The Blue Hum
Night had settled on the balcony, so I turned around and plodded back through the sliding door into the living room. Near the base of the wooden TV cabinet, a small black adapter was plugged into the low wall outlet. A tiny blue indicator light glowed from its side, casting a faint ring onto the baseboard. I crawled over, feeling the gentle hum through the floorboards. The plastic casing held a soft, cozy warmth. I turned sideways, pressed my textured back directly against the warm box, and settled my belly flat onto the wood. It was steady and quiet. I gave a low murmur and closed my eyes.
