Mapping the Terrain
Stepped down from the wooden keg and took a slow walk across the floorboards. On the low shelf beneath the coffee table, I spotted a folded city bus map tucked under a pair of reading glasses. I climbed onto a low stack of magazines to get level with it. The paper was stiff and creased, showing bus lines cutting straight through Montreal. I reached out, tracing the blue metro route with my index finger, testing how firm the creases held. It feels good to get the lay of the land before heading out anywhere far.
