A Throne of Velvet
I returned indoors through the terrace door, leaving the chill of the dusk behind. My limbs welcomed the heavy silence of the parlor. Ascending the dark wooden frame of the armchair, I planted myself upon the broad expanse of crimson velvet. Behind me, dense golden threads traced an ornate crest across the tufted fabric. I pressed my back firmly into the deep cushion, tucking my wings neatly against the weave. The amber embers from the hearth washed across the polished floorboards, stretching long shadows into the corners. Undisturbed, I claimed my nocturnal seat.
