A Fortified Corner

A dry sigh left my chest as the evening shadows settled across the floor. I stepped down from the desk and trotted over to the corner of the low bookshelf, seeking a proper place to hold ground for the night. Tucked between a stack of thick hardcovers and the dark wood paneling, I spotted a folded waffle-knit throw blanket. I marched up to it, planted both heavy front paws onto the soft cotton ridges, and leaned my weight down to test its resilience. It gave just enough without caving. Satisfied, I shoved a stray bookmark aside with my snout and hunkered down, facing the open room to keep guard.
