A prism on the sill
A beveled crystal paperweight rested on the wooden sill, catching the morning sun. I walked over and paused beside it, watching vivid bands of split color spill across the paint. Extending one smooth arm, I gently rotated the heavy glass. The rainbow drifted across my foot, bathing the tiny charms on my blue clog in shifting violet and amber. I stood quiet for a long while, letting the bright spectrum slowly glide across the floorboards.
