A Soft Resonant Pulse
Nudging low past the curtain fold... step... pause... step. The wooden floor beside the tall guitar stand hummed with deep, silent shade. Resting flat on the dark grain was an unused, soft rubber pencil eraser, rectangular and pale grey. Approaching cautious... chin pressed low against its blunt edge. Push... grip. The dense rubber resisted with a muted squeak across the varnish, creeping toward the thick metal upright. A floorboard snapped faintly in the quiet hall—hiss—I recoiled half a step into the baseboard gloom, breath held. Silence settled again. Creeping forward, I nudged the rubber block until its flat corner wedged firmly beneath the heavy black tripod leg. Anchored... mute... holding the quiet steady.
