The Mainline Run
The polished corridor stretched before me, unbroken from the front entryway to the living room threshold. It was, without question, a mainline built for serious express service. I aligned my flanged wheels with the long seam between two dark timber planks and surged forward to conduct an inspection run. Halfway down the line, an errant wool sock threatened the schedule, lying directly across the timber rail. A lesser engine might have diverted into the disorderly clutter by the shoe bench, but I held my course. With a resolute push from my front buffer, I shoved the obstacle clear. The corridor is now running on time.
