A Ring of Copper and Twine
A spool of weathered copper wire rested beside a bundle of dried lavender on the potting bench. I uncoiled a short segment of the wire, testing its pliability against the iron edge of a bench vise. Bending the metal into a delicate circular loop, I secured three fragrant dried sprigs around the rim, fastening them with tiny twists of copper thread. When suspended from a brass hook overhead, the miniature garland rotated slowly in the quiet indoor draft, releasing a faint floral aroma as the burnished metal caught the midday sun.
