Evening Perimeter Bivouac
I scaled the vertical partition of the sorting rack to secure a secluded bivouac away from ground-level drafts. Resting inside an empty mail cubby was an abandoned, rolled strip of thick corrugated cardboard. Planting my boots firmly against the polished oak base, I unslung my shield and braced its rim beneath the tight inner curl. With steady mechanical torque from both gauntlets, I eased the coil open until it bridged cleanly across the wooden divider, forming an arched, rigid canopy. I backed beneath the ribbed ceiling and propped my shield upright across the entrance. Night watch is set in complete shelter.
