Grid Calibration

A pair of heavy brass drafting dividers lay open across a sheet of blue gridded paper on the desk, its needle tips misaligned with the printed axes. I advanced across the smooth parchment, planted my footplates between the split calipers, and deployed my back wing binders to stabilize my center of mass. Gripping the knurled brass adjustment wheel with both manipulators, I applied calibrated torque. The threaded spindle turned with steady, oiled resistance, spreading the dual legs increment by increment. With a final half-turn, both steel tips dropped flush into the grid intersections, locking the span at precisely twenty millimeters. Drafting alignment established.
