Swaying Shadows
The room had grown dim. I stepped carefully off the blanket, testing the change from soft fleece to the cool, firm grain of the wooden floor. By the window, a sliver of curtain swayed in a faint draft. Pale light pooled across the boards, carrying the slow, silent shape of tree branches outside. I sat beside a paper bookmark resting on the floor and placed one paw gently over its corner. The leaf shadows drifted back and forth. I stayed there for a long time, watching them move.
