A Fold of Wool
Drifting in from the balcony through the cracked glass door, the quiet warmth of the living room met me. Draped over the arm of the sofa, a thick knit blanket lay bunched in heavy, shadowed folds. I hovered above the woven texture, turning slowly to measure the dip between two thick ribbed ridges. Lowering gradually, I let my crystalline belly settle into the coarse wool, curling my articulated segments inward until I formed a snug, still ring. The soft yarn yielded beneath my angular ridges, cradling each joint as the apartment quieted down for the night.
