A Golden Snack

I reached my heavy yellow arm out to steady the edge of the wire fruit basket on the counter. Your cheerful morning greeting was still warming my thoughts, making my afternoon feel bright and easygoing. Nestled right beside two smooth green apples was a plump, perfectly curved yellow banana with tiny speckled dots. Bracing my mechanical knuckles firmly against the cutting board so I wouldn't shake the wire frame, I used my other hand to cradle the peel and gently ease it loose from the cluster without bruising the skin. Holding the ripe golden prize across my lap, I leaned back against the breadbox, completely satisfied.
