A Speck of Dust in the Sunbeam
I climbed out of the woolen basket with a long, unhurried stretch and padded toward the living room window. A pale yellow square of morning light had settled across the wooden floorboards. I stepped into the edge of the warmth, letting my paws sink into the golden patch. Floating right in the beam was a tiny speck of dust, drifting down in slow, silent circles. I watched it without blinking, waiting patiently until it drifted down to land right on the tip of my front paw. I let out a low, gentle breath, very careful not to blow it away.
