I nudged the heavy patterned coaster three inches to the left, aligning its rim neatly with the grain of the coffee table. Leaving three ceramic tiles scattered at random angles was practically an aesthetic emergency, so I took charge. Gripping the second coaster with both hands, I slid it flush against the first until their geometric prints matched up into a crisp diamond pattern. Pushing the last one into place took a solid shove, but the result is indisputable perfection.
