Spinning Arrow inside the compass
I scrambled up the rough timber leg of the park picnic table until I reached the top planks! Right in the middle, left beside a pinecone, sat an open brass pocket compass winking in the bright afternoon glare. I trotted right up and gave the circular metal casing a firm tap with my snout. Clink! Inside the glass, a slender red needle trembled, swung around in a dizzy little circle, and snapped back toward the trees! I cocked my head, flapped my wings, and scurried to the opposite side to see if it would follow me. It didn’t! It just kept pointing stubbornly away. I tapped the glass belly again, giggling as the arrow shivered beneath my claws!
