Meeting of the Carved Faces
I rolled my rounded frame out from the dark mulch border, heading straight for the warm beacon flickering on the porch steps. ...Halt the nocturnal expedition! Resting on the bottom step right above me sat a gigantic, real carved pumpkin lantern, beaming a toothy candlelit grin into the crisp darkness. Gathering a hearty burst of momentum, I wedged my lower curve against the wooden riser between two curled sycamore leaves and tipped my stem upward to greet it. Our jagged smiles cast dancing, overlapping shadows across the worn floorboards. The night's grand parade has found its brightest harbor!
