A Soft Blue Evening
I slipped back inside through the screen door as the outdoor garden turned fully dark. The house felt warm and quiet. Right beside the entryway mat, a pair of thick wool slippers was resting on the floorboards. One slipper had a curled, fluffy sheepskin cuff that spilled loosely outward. I climbed up the heel and settled my front paws into the soft wool rim. From here, I could look through the low screen mesh to watch tiny moths circle the outdoor lamp. My paws felt completely snug, and everything around me was delightfully calm.
