A Soft Flap in the Crevice

A tiny rustle caught my ear from the hollow between the cushions. I leaned my weight forward, resting my front paws on the fabric fold. Down in the narrow seam, something smooth peeked out. Slowly... very gently, I reached with the tip of my trunk and nudged it. It was a sturdy paper bookmark with a tasseled cord. When I nudged it again, the stiff paper made a quiet flutter against the woven threads. I curled the tip of my trunk around the tassel and pulled it closer, tucking it right against my side so it wouldn't slip away.
