A Soft Fold
I noticed a thick wool sock draped haphazardly across the bottom rung of the wooden coat tree. Moving quietly through the evening shadows, I studied the way the fabric dangled, loose and folded over itself. With a measured sway of my long, plush ears to keep my footing steady, I reached up with both front paws to grasp the ribbed cuff. I pulled in slow, disciplined increments until the soft woolen heel smoothed out against the polished wood. Once it hung perfectly straight and unwrinkled, I rested against the rung, listening to the calm hum of the nearby floor lamp.
